Overview
The Breakfast
Smoothie is a great tasting, high protein smoothie ideal particularly for
anyone who struggles to consume a healthy breakfast in the morning. The
Breakfast Smoothie provides all the essential nutrients that a breakfast should
deliver, providing a range of vitamins and minerals, high quality source of
protein (Whey Concentrate and Isolate), a unique Greens blend, and a Grains
blend. Each serving provides natural banana and strawberry flavourings as well
as having natural fruit pieces to offer a natural tasting smoothie. In addition
to the excellent nutritional profile, each 50g serving also provides 75 mg of
caffeine through a combination of Green Tea and Guarana Extract.

Not a bad looking breakdown for a “breakfast”
shake. The protein comes from Whey concentrate and the carbs (mostly) come from
a blend of grains. The real star of this breakfast shake is the Greens Blend that’s
mixed in which includes Spirulina, Beetroot, Tomato, Broccoli, Spinach, Green
Tea and lots more.
A good Greens product is a great way to
start your day and I do like to see things like this included in Breakfast
products.
Taste
I Had the
Banana and Strawberry flavour and it doesn’t taste much like Banana or
Strawberry. It mixes up into a strange green colour and has a strange flavour.
I wouldn’t say its unpleasant but it certainly isn’t Banana and Strawberry.

Results
I’m not usually overly keen on breakfast
products normally they are sugar heavy and protein light but actually
MyProtein have done a great job with the nutritional breakdown. The 19g of
protein could be higher but since most of you will be using standard protein powders
in your daily diet anyway that won’t pose much of an issue. The carbs are kept
in check with only 15g and the fats are very low with 2.2g. So this might not
make into your low carb day but on a general diet would be absolutely fine.
The Greens Blend they use here looks very
good on paper but unfortunately I haven’t got the actual amount of each ingredient so its hard to draw an accurate conclusion – its certainly a step in the right
direction though.
The main issue is the taste the banana and
strawberry just isn’t good enough to make me want to take this supplement. If
they could find a way to make the flavour strong enough to cover the greens
blend without compromising the nutritional values of the shake I think they
would be onto a winner. This is a little bit more expensive than some of MyProtein's offerings but its still on par with the rest of the market.
Although Breakfast Smoothie does have some
major plus points over other breakfast supplements it just doesn’t have the
taste and price point to really make an impact. MyProtein are constantly overhauling
their products and I think as soon as this gets a taste upgrade then it’ll be
great. 6/10
