Here we have a preworkout with a little bit of everything in it. On paper this is a very strong, slightly overcomplicated preworkout. Campbell Nutrition has tried to cover every base to provide a preworkout that is “complete” in every sense of the word.

Fast acting sugars to provide an energy spike and preload the muscles with glucose which lays the foundation for a decent pump and workout. The Calcium included will help transport the glucose around your system.

There are a few ingredients here that you might not be familiar most of them are Amino Acids but one that’s important that you might not have heard of is:

Tyrosine – helps muscle mind connection, aids protein synthesis and the production of adrenaline.

Taste
I had the Blackcurrant flavour and it wasn’t quite to my personal taste, I found it a little bit strong so I often increased the water slightly to dilute it. It mixed well and there was no grit and the bottom of the shaker

Results

For a preworkout like this that designed for energy, pump, focus, strength, muscle contractions and everything inbetween there is a lot of ground to cover. Pre-Training Pump does some things very well it delivers a great energy spike at the start of the workout although it only lasts about 35 minutes. The pumps are good and it does help you concentrate and really get “in the zone”. One of the things I noticed with Pre-Training Pump was that I could really feel the muscle when I lifting even on compound movements I was able to zone in more than usual on the muscle I was targeting, it made for much more effective workouts. Pre-Training Pump does a lot of things well but nothing truly outstanding, it’ll give you a solid workout everytime but it doesn’t leave you feeling like a God in the Weightroom.

Preworkouts don’t always taste the best and this one, whilst perfectly drinkable, wasn’t quit to my personal taste. Coming at just over 60p per serving this is a very good value preworkout. It would make a solid choice for anyone who hasn’t used many preworkouts before or who wants a bit of an “all-in-one” preworkout rather than one that focuses in one specific point.

Unfortunately Pre-Training Pump suffers a bit from trying to do too many things at once, it doesn’t fail at any of them by any means but you get the feeling that if they narrowed their focus a bit they could have made a good product a great one. 7/10

The carbs/sugars are a little high for a diet shake (even they are naturally occurring). The fat burning ingredients are all proven and reliable but they are a little bit “gently” dosed for my liking.

Taste

I had the Raspberry flavour and it’s delicious, really nice. It’s not too sweet and has no aftertaste. It mixes up very nicely with no grit.

Diet shakes aren’t usually that effective at directly burning fat they tend to assist more with muscle maintenance and keeping hunger pains away. Diet shakes usually contain a few ingredients that will accelerate results or make fat “easier” for your body to use or get rid of. The ingredients in Nutriform’s Diet Whey are there to accelerate the fat burning process rather than be the sole reason for your weight loss and that’s the way it should be.

This shake has a higher amount of protein than some comparable products on the market and that is very useful because when in a calorie depleted state if you aren’t careful you body will try to burn off your hard earned muscle for fuel and that just can’t be allowed! The higher protein content along with the BCAA’s and Glutamine included should help protect your muscles as much as possible.

Nutriform Diet Whey tastes amazing you won’t get sick of it half way through the bag which is always a danger, then if you get sick of it you won’t want it, then you eat a Snickers and suddenly your off the wagon. Taste is important.

Diet Whey is also quite good value, its very competitively priced and is unlikely to break the bank too much during your cutting phase. Nutriform’s Diet Whey is a delicious, cost effective way to burn a little bit of fat and assist your cutting cycle. 8.5/10

I had the Lemon and Lime flavour it was very refreshing a little bit like Sprite that’s had the fizz taken out of it. It mixed up very well and never had any grit.

From a product called Pump Extreme you pretty much know what you are getting. It is going to drive blood, water and nutrients into the muscles you are working and force them to expand and hopefully grow. Preworkouts serve a purpose that is often overlooked in supplement world, they allow you to workout harder for longer. You can improve the density of your workout and provide your muscles with enough stimulus to make the fibres adjust and grow back stronger. Pump Extreme brings the energy in force, I’m fairly dulled to caffeine in general so preworkouts tend to have a lesser effect on me but 1.5 scoops of this stuff is still rocket fuel! I was able to finish heavy sets like they were my warm up. The energy didn’t last a massive amount of time but more than enough to finish the hardest sets, Awesome energy boosts are all well and good but we came here for a pump dammit! Pump Extreme gives you just that an extreme pump, I noticed it particularly in my arms, chest and quads. High reps and Pump Extreme are a recipe for sleeve tearing pumps, I dare you to try and hit a Cable Curl 30+ Rep set and keep your sleeves intact.

Pump Extreme is priced fairly I think, its slightly cheaper than some other options and has a decent amount of servings per tub. It tastes pretty good which is sometimes a problem with preworkout supplements. There are possibly better products on the market for energy and endurance but products that can give you this kind of pump are few and far between. 8.5/10

Caffeine is included but in a fairly gentle amount (less than half an espresso) but it is enough to give you a little pick me up.

Taste

I had the Lemon and Lime flavour and the taste is spot on, it’s really refreshing and doesn’t have a nasty aftertaste. It mixes really well, in fact I often mixed this up the night before and left it in the fridge and it was still fine to drink the next day.

CCE Hydroboost is an endurance product designed to keep you going throughout even the toughest training session. So the main things you are looking out for are keep you hydrated, high energy levels, no cramps, that feeling of determination and most of all the ability to finish the workout strong. CCE Hydroboost succeeds at all of them. It really is very good at keeping you going, I mentioned the low levels of caffeine earlier but it really made a difference. You do feel a slight buzz but not enough to make it a preworkout for me this definitely sits within the “intra workout” category. I primarily used it during weight training and found it very effective but I gave it a test throughout various cardio activities including jogging, HIIT, circuit training, cycling and sprint training it performed valiantly during all of them. There is only one real downside to CCE Hydroboost that I found and that’s that you are supposed to mix it with only 200ml of water which was drunk within the first 25 minutes of my workout. I tried mixing it up with more water but it diluted the lovely flavour too much, double (even triple) servings with the right ratio of water works well but then you burn through the tub really fast. I recommend a single serving and a bottle of water for most workouts, if you are as thirsty as me anyway.

It is priced very competitively and is slightly cheaper than comparable products on the market at the moment. The taste is excellent and it is a pleasure to drink but most importantly this product works! Apart from my minor gripe about the amount of liquid this product succeeds at everything it set out to. 9.5/10

This is a slow digesting protein shake that isn’t just for night time use. It actually makes a very good breakfast shake when dieting because of the slow digesting nature of the proteins it will keep you satisfied for quite a few hours, not quite 9 Hours but at least 3-4 hours.

The protein itself is made up of Whey, Soya and Milk Proteins along with a healthy serving of BCAA and Glutamine. It’s a good build but a little shy on carbs to make it a good post workout choice, good for pretty much every other time of day though. Sci-MX always put a good helping of Vitamins in there products which makes them even better for you.

Taste

I had the Banana flavour and it is amazing. It tastes really good, you could serve it over ice in a glass and no-one would know it’s not a milkshake. It mixes beautifully in a standard shaker with no lumps or grit.

Results

GRS 9 Hour is at its best when its used to keep away hunger pains. It would be an excellent protein choice for a low calorie cutting cycle you could easily have this as a breakfast and not worry about food again until lunch. I was on a high calorie diet at the time so mostly used it between meals and it kept me content every time, I never found myself hungry or looking for a sweet snack. The banana flavour is so good that it almost acts as a treat so you have no need to fall off the diet wagon.

It could be used as a night time shake to keep your muscles fed and prevent catabolism and whilst it is recommend as Post Workout shake I wouldn’t use it as one because I like a lot more fast acting carbs in my Post Workout shake to speed up recovery and growth.

It’s a little bit pricey but Sci-MX often have good offers on their site and it pays to shop around for a bargain. GRS 9 Hour is a delicious way to keep your muscles fed and growing throughout the day. 9/10

Results

I love a preworkout. It’s no secret and I’m not ashamed of it. I love the buzz, I love the pump, I love the voice in the back of your head that screams at you to lift that extra rep. There is nothing better than a good preworkout. Nutriform have produced a great offering in Nutri-Fuel. It does exactly what you expect it to do, it gets you the mood to dominate the weightroom, it gives you that sleeve tearing pump that we all crave and yes it makes you tingle for a good 20-30 minutes.

The taste isn’t great but that’s a minor point with a preworkout, no-one picks a preworkout on taste they want the buzz. You get 3 strength options (1/2 scoop,1 scooop and 1.5 scoops) I didn’t feel much with the half scoop, on 1 scoop I did feel it but it wore off quite quickly, 1.5 scoops is where the magic happens. The main drawback is when you take max dosage it makes it a bit more pricey as you’ll only get 17 servings in the tub.

No-one could ever complain that Nutri-Fuel is weak! The pumps are great, the focus is there, the energy pushes you through the hardest workouts imaginable. Nutrifuel has a lot going for it and is worth trying out if you are in the market for a new preworkout. 8/10

Results

Pyro does not mess around! I have never sweated like I did while I was testing these. It’s not just when you workout either it’s all the time. Bring a change of clothes wherever you go. Fortunately it only lasted the first 3 or 4 days but it is intense.

As a fat burner there is no doubting its ability to get rid of a few pounds. Over my trial body fat was visibly reduce especially around the midsection and legs. A good deal of water weight was lost as well which obviously makes you look leaner. It doesn’t do much for making you want to eat less often but it does reduce you’re appetite (possibly the Yerba Mate) so you will naturally reduce calorie intake which then makes Pyro much more potent.

Pyro is quite expensive but it is often found on offer on Sci-MX’s website. So shop around to get a bargain. I can’t say I enjoyed sweating that much but the results do speak for themselves and I would happily go through it again. 7.5/10

25g of whey is decent amount and in the right absorption range for most people, some very gifted individuals might need to double up but for us mortals a 25g hit should be sufficient.

The fat content is slightly higher than I like to see in a whey product and so are the Carbs/Sugars but they aren’t drastically high so I wouldn’t worry to much.

The whey is de-lactosed so that’s good news for anyone who is lactose intolerant, there is still normally a little bit in there but its usually not enough for anyone to notice.

Taste

I had the Strawberry flavour and its taste pretty good, it mixes very well no lumps or grit. The is no aftertaste and its very pleasant to drink.

Whey shakes can’t really be judged by results alone because everyone will be using it for a different reason it could be muscle growth, repair, fat loss, healthy snack etc. 25g of protein is ample for all of those goals so ADV Whey makes for a very versatile shake. The flavour is good enough so you won’t get sick of it if you are downing 3 or more a day which is great news for those of us who have to hit high calorie goals on a daily basis. Personally with a shake like this with the carbs and fat that have been included I would use it more for growth and recovery than for diet and fat loss.

The price is very competitive and is actually probably slightly cheaper than average and the taste is vey pleasant so there really are very few negative points with ADV Whey. It makes for a very solid whey choice for almost any cycle or dietary needs. 8.5/10
